International Partnership Strengthens Commitment to Ocean Protection
Rotary Club Atlântico and Rotary Club of Bahia formalize collaboration under the End Plastic Soup project at the 49th IRRECIFE District Conference
A meaningful milestone for the End Plastic Soup Portugal campaign was reached today at the 49th IRRECIFE district conference, where the commemorative partnership card "A Shared Commitment: Rotary Club Atlântico/D1960" was officially presented to RIP Yinka Babalola by President Carlos Rátis of the Rotary Club of Bahia (District 4391, Salvador, Brazil).
The presentation marks the formal recognition of an international partnership between Rotary Club Atlântico (District 1960, Portugal) and the Rotary Club of Bahia (District 4391, Brazil) — two clubs united by a shared purpose: empowering communities and protecting oceans, coast by coast, river by river, forest by forest, community by community.
A Shared Commitment to the Oceans
This collaboration strengthens the reach and impact of two flagship initiatives led by End Plastic Soup Portugal:
The End Plastic Soup Project, encompassing beach and coastal cleaning initiatives, environmental education programs, and awareness-building through the project's dedicated theme song.
Week of the Sea Without Plastic, a global, multilingual campaign fostering international community engagement, with resources available at endplasticsoup-portugal.pt.
The partnership was formally signed by Carlos Rátis, President of the Rotary Club of Bahia, and Simone Lopes, President of Rotary Club Atlântico and National Coordinator of End Plastic Soup Portugal, reaffirming Rotary's enduring commitment to environmental stewardship and to future generations.
Building Lasting Impact Together
As the commemorative card states: "Together, we inspire change that transforms lives and builds a better world." This international bridge between Portugal and Brazil reflects the truly global nature of the End Plastic Soup/Week of the Sea Without Plastic movement, active in over 73+ countries under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco.
We look forward to sharing the next steps of this partnership as the collaboration between our two clubs and nations develops in the months ahead.
